GE to cut 12,000 jobs in plan to reduce costs in power unit
December 7 – General Electric is cutting 12,000 power jobs globally in an effort to reduce 1 billion in cost. This was brought on by disruptions in the industry and the need to be better positioned for 2019 and beyond. Analysts say this decision is long overdue.
Southern California Fire Update
December – Southern California has been ravaged by wildfires this past week. Forced evacuation in many areas is in place as the fires move toward heavily populated areas. FEMA is offering information concerning the wildfire and information regarding preparing for wildfires.
U.S. Department of Labor Fines US Environmental Inc. for Safety Violations
November 29 – OSHA recently cited US Environmental in region 3 for 12 safety violations totaling $333,756 in proposed penalties. Most of the violations centered on the company willfully exposes workers to confined space and fall hazards at it Downing Town, PA location. For more details on the penalties, see the link above. It really highlights the need for proper training and enforcement of confined space and fall hazards.
